Fengchi visits SINOWELL: Vietnam’s large-format color printing pioneer
Last December, the Fengchi team visited SINOWELL Packaging Technology, a Chinese-owned color printing and packaging factory now operating in northern Vietnam. Founded and led by post-90s entrepreneur Mr. Yu (born 1991), SINOWELL has rapidly scaled to become one of Vietnam’s most capable producers of large-format color boxes and premium packaging.
Rapid expansion and dual northern Vietnam footprint
SINOWELL officially began production in October 2022. Its initial facility in Bac Ninh was complemented by a second factory after the company acquired an existing building in Hai Phong (formerly administratively linked with Hai Duong). Today the group operates two factories in northern Vietnam, enabling dedicated lines for color printing, corrugated board and premium packaging.
What differentiates SINOWELL: the equipment suite
SINOWELL’s competitive edge is clear in its equipment configuration and format capability:
- Large-format press: Asia’s only 1.85-meter eight-color printing press with varnishing capability, the largest color-printing format available in Vietnam.
- Lamination and die-cutting: A 2.2-meter fully automatic flute laminating machine and a 2.1-meter fully automatic die-cutter.
- Box-gluing: A 1.65-meter fully automatic box-gluer and a 2.4-meter dual-sheet fully automatic box-gluer for higher throughputs.
- Corrugation and watermark printing: The Bac Ninh plant operates a 2.5-meter five-layer corrugator line; the Hai Phong site has begun watermark printing and is already contributing to revenue.
From pre-press to post-press, the factory’s end-to-end capability is among the most comprehensive in Vietnam, enabling large-format, high-quality color packaging at scale.
Production and revenue snapshot
SINOWELL reports robust monthly revenues across its product lines:
- Color printing and color boxes: ¥10–12 million per month.
- Bac Ninh corrugated production: >¥10 million per month, with approximately 70% of corrugated board sold externally.
- Emerging watermark printing in Hai Phong: contributing several million yuan monthly in early operations.
Competitive landscape and margins
Mr. Yu observes that competition is intense both in Vietnam and domestically in China. Over the past year, Vietnam’s gross profit margins have declined and in some cases fallen below domestic Chinese levels and below SINOWELL’s headquarters factory in Wuxi. To maintain differentiation, SINOWELL emphasizes format size, equipment scope, and premium packaging capabilities.
Domestic comparison: Wuxi operations
SINOWELL’s Wuxi facility retains a leadership position in large-format print with a 2.05-meter printing press—reported as the largest in China and a world-class format. The dual-market approach—large-format prestige in China and expansive manufacturing in Vietnam—allows the group to balance high-value production and regional cost advantages.
