Purchased through Graffica, PMS Lithography selected the Fengchi GW1700 high-speed litho laminating machine for speed, productivity, and automation

Victoria-based large format printing, packaging, point-of-display, and food packaging provider PMS Lithography recently purchased and installed a Fengchi GW1700 high-speed litho laminating machine at its Thomastown premises to gain speed, productivity, and automation.
The deal, which was done through Graffica, a trusted name in premium packaging equipment and services, is the second Fengchi GW1700 to be installed in Australia.
PMS Lithography, which has been in operation since 1990, has been a valued client of Graffica’s over many years and purchased several die cutters and folding box gluers from the latter previously.
The deal for the Fengchi machine was initiated when PMS Lithography visited the Fengchi stand with Graffica director Neil Southerington at drupa last year. After detailed technical meetings and specification reviews, PMS Lithography selected the Fengchi GW1700 as the machine best suited for its business needs.
“We’ve been working with Neil and Graffica for more than 25 years and he has supplied us with several equipment over that time. This deal is an extension of that long-standing relationship,” PMS Lithography managing director Theo Prosenica said.
“At drupa last year, Neil and I visited the Fengchi booth and had a chance to speak to the manufacturer. We saw the machine in action – they ran some tests while we were there. I was very impressed by what it could achieve.
“Upon returning to Australia, I went through the technical specs of the machine with my staff and decided that it was probably one of the better fits for us going forward.”
PMS Lithography was using other mounting equipment prior to acquiring the Fengchi GW1700, but according to Prosenica, it lacked speed.
“We needed to increase our productivity, and the Fengchi GW1700 provides that for us. We’ve kept the other equipment as backup, but we haven’t had to use it even for increased workloads as this machine is more than capable of doing the work. We’ve reduced the workload from two shifts to one, which has been a major advantage for us,” Prosenica said.
Some of the key technical features of the Fengchi GW1700 are:
- Stable speed: 16,000 sheets/hour(165 m/min); maximum 22,000 sheets/hour (175 m/min)
- Quick job switching: An average of two to five minutes to change jobs, reducing downtime and increasing efficiency
- Low maintenance: It features dual bearings plus automatic lubrication system for extended uptime
- Full servo control: Improved accuracy and stability; reduces defects and allows one-key operation
- Material compatibility: The machine is compatible with a wide range of materials including coated paper, cardboard, greyboard, whiteboard, kraft paper, duplex paper, corrugated board (including multi-flute), and more
- Designed for high volume: Ideal for packaging manufacturers making corrugated packaging, POS displays and laminated cardboard goods.
“The Fengchi GW1700 is very user-friendly – from an operator’s point of view, it’s easy to run and maintain. We’re always striving to grow our business and are looking at other digital technology. The Fengchi GW1700 supports the direction we’re heading towards,” Prosenica said.
Southerington said the machine’s capabilities make the GW1700 well suited to PMS Lithography’s output targets and growth aims.
“PMS Lithography is a well-respected print and print finishing company. The versatile stock range and fast job-to-job set up of the Fengchi GW1700 suits the business’ needs very well. Graffica is honoured for PMS Lithography to be the second in Australia to own the GW1700,” he said.
“We have worked in collaboration over many years and Graffica looks forward to supporting PMS Lithography well into its future for its production needs.”
Prosenica praised his experiences working with Graffica, saying that the two companies will continue their partnership well into the future.
“It’s just easy to deal with Neil. He does what he says, he delivers on time. Because he’s local, we know we will get the support we need anytime. You will definitely see us working in partnership again in future,” he added.
Graffica has also sold another two Fengchi GW1700 machines in Australia, with the units to be installed at the customers’ premises in due course.
